Bringing out the best in New York. This is exactly what the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival will again be doing in a variety of ways. And this June will be for the 22nd consecutive year.
The annual end of spring fling revives the spirit and strength of the city. It can’t help but reminding the world what Robert DeNiro, Jane Rosenthal, and Craig Hatkoff did in launching the event to revitalize Lower Manhattan following the September 11th attacks on the World Trade Center.
The festival used entertainment for bringing people together, as well as for bringing back the community as a place to live and work. It has grown from there.
The 2023 Tribeca Film Festival dates are Wednesday, June 7th to Sunday, June 18th, 2023.
This year’s event will try topping the more than 150,000 attendees who showed up last year to take in over 600 screenings across New York City.
While maintaining a focus on showcasing independent films, the festival also celebrates creativity in other forms. There is episodic programming, music, art, games, and live speaking presentations. Presenting artists will be vying for awards in 23 competitive categories.
Kicking off the festival on Wednesday, June 7, is the North American premiere of “Kiss the Future.” This documentary has tremendous star power being produced by Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, and Sarah Anthony.
Its story has plenty of power, too. It centers on Bosnia’s war-torn capital city of Sarajevo, introducing viewers to underground musicians and other creative types. Plus, there is the impact of the 1997 U2 concert celebrating the newfound freedom there.
Closing out the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival is an oldie but goodie with a personal touch. All will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of Robert DeNiro’s directorial debut with a screening of “A Bronx Tale.” He also stars in the film as the bus driving father of a son who becomes involved with the neighborhood’s crime boss.
Following the film’s screening, attendees will enjoy a special conversation. In this you will be hearing from Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal who produced, and Chazz Palminteri.
He served as a writer on the film. However, Chazz is better known for delivering a strong performance as the co-star and rival of DeNiro’s character.
Tribeca Film Festival spotlight documentary on Mike Veeck, “The Saint of Second Chances.”
The 2023 Tribeca Film Festival is showcasing the World Premiere of this entertaining and inspiring film. The highly anticipated work is the latest from Academy-Award winning director Morgan Neville.
It is co-directed by Jeff Malmberg. You may know their recent work of “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?” This was a documentary on the impactful life of Fred Rogers, better known as “Mister Rogers.”
The Saint of Second Chances is time well spent following the life and career of professional baseball executive Mike Veeck. He is the legendary baseball promotion whiz and son of Hall of Famer, Bill Veeck.
Like his dad, Mike had quite the roller coaster ride following his “Disco Demolition” event at Comiskey Park caused a riot. But who doesn’t like second chances? Mike Veeck has been busy making the most of his.
You will see in this high-quality production and storytelling effort. It covers his amazing run with the St. Paul Saints and much more than baseball.
Mike Veeck’s website has the full story on the documentary. Click here for ticket information on attending the Tribeca Film Festival.
